OI!!

Sorry for misleading you there Ann. I thought Julian had made it accessible. We seem to be in agreement on a lot. Woodchip was a tad cruel - me just being mischevious - if I had a picture of myself up there taken 10 years ago looking glam, I would be suggesting it stayed glued :))
I hope more peeps contribute to your thread. It is good that you have taken time to think about it. x

PS All my profile photos are less than one year old - except the present one where I'm covered in moss - which was taken in about 100 years time!:)

Crumbs - I wasn't singling anyone out Ann - don't do that to me!
As a rule though - we all tend to put up flattering photos n'est-ce pas? I reckon Steve Regan's is a good few years out of date. I know he is thick skinned enough not to bother about me commenting on it though - and luckily he hasn't gone down hill too much. I thought that straw was a pipe when I first joined the site - see how deceiving photos can be?

Awww - that's very gracious of you...

While you're at it could you not give us a closer up shot of those cycling shorts Mr Plowes - they may make for more interesting wallpaper.

A good item to have on a new-look front page could be feedback from open mic gigs. At the moment they appear in a random way on various discussions threads. They could have their own slot and reflect something of the heart and soul of Write Out Loud.

In fact I was talking about this last night with Rachel as she compered the Bolton night (superbly). Rachel is keen to do something better with galleries, and I remarked that photos ought to link to the event itself, and its reviews. There is currently a facility to comment on photos, rarely used, which could invite reviews. I guess we are talking user reviews?

One idea I had was to add two buttons to each gig guide entry: review this gig (à la Amazon), and ‘read reviews of this event’ - I idly wonder if we might adopt ‘event’ if we are going to get more ‘proper poetry’ gi... er, events.

This ties in with the group profiles idea, too, in that the group profile area could ‘house’ the galleries and reviews for that (what? Gig or venue?). Of course the stuff is housed virtually, so can appear wherever we want it to. One question is, to what extent we can also have editorially selected reviews alongside open-house reviews.

Features is one area that sits on the home page, unmoving, like a moody adolescent, and I want to get more reviews on there, books as well as gigs and others.

I'm amazed you've noticed - do you make a habit of going through old threads? Perhaps WOL can't cope with the size of our discussions...

Not old threads - just comments on poets' profile pages. Personally I'm not too bothered as they are the sort of fleeting stuff, thank yous etc..
