Site Grievance Procedures

This thread replaces an earlier one.

Could I remind members that the discussion area of the site is designed for just that – discussion, preferably about poetry. Personal grievances should be resolved privately, or where this is not possible, with site mediation.

To re-cap on what was said earlier:

WOL asks that all poets should enter into the discussion / critique area sensitively. Its terms and conditions say that abusive comments may be deleted. Clearly what constitutes abusive may be subjective. A team of moderators has been appointed to decide upon that. The rules governing discussion threads also apply to comments on blogs and profiles. I have cut and pasted them, but you may find the Terms of Use in the drop-down menu marked ‘Info’ on the Home Page.

This is a public forum for people of all backgrounds. Please take care not to offend.

• Don't write things you might regret later (beware post-pub posting!).

• Try to see the other point of view. We learn little from people we agree with.

• Be polite, even when you disagree.

The moderators on WOL try to act in a light handed way, avoiding censorship where at all possible and allowing people to come to some understanding between themselves. Where this is not possible, we are happy to get involved and mediate privately. In extreme cases, comments may be removed. Anyone with a grievance can approach the moderators on the following address moderatorwol@gmail.com

Sometimes, the ‘remove’ of internet communication makes it far easier to misunderstand and/or disagree with people. Comments made in a light hearted, off the cuff nature can be mis-read, because we are unable to inject tone. This is something we need to bear in mind when engaging in any dialogue, but especially one held in the public sphere, without face-to-face communication.

I feel like I'm fessing up to being a death eater - but I am one. The rest is a team appointed by the site owner. The only important thing to note, is that decisions aren't taken willy nilly by one person.

All people who work for this site, do so with no financial reward. It's not always easy to get things right and all voluntary work is time consuming. In other words, please take on board the above procedures and let this thread die, folks. x

Thank you for explaining everything so well, Isobel. Hopefully, it won't be needed again. x
