A lonely hat hanging from the wall, the last gift I ever received from you. The Stetson hat with bullhide -- the only connection I have to the leaked memories of who you once were before you went away. That lonely hat hanging from the wall reminds me of the time I watched from the window as you spent your days working on the farm -- Chopping trees, Taking care of the animals, Tending to the crops. Never shorting your work for the cause of any. I can see the work ethic that you had placed within me all those years ago. Within the hat lay all of the morals that make me who I am to this very day. All of the speeches that are stuck inside my head. Like permanent tattoos, your words faded into my skin. I go through life striving to be something like the man I see every time I glance at the hat on the wall. That hat found upon my wall reminds me of how you showed me how to tie my shoes, how to tie a tie for the first time. It reminds me of the countless memories that will never fade. The hat is all I have left of you, Papa. It reminds me of the grief I went through when you passed, and the endless joy while you were alive and with me. I cherish all that's left of you, Grandpa -- is That lonely hat on the wall.
