Cake For goodness sake I’m obsessed with cake It must be my age, I take it, But I’m not happy Unless I can bake it You see I’m a big fan Of a scone with jam A Battenberg slice Is rather nice When the clock strikes 11 I’m in tea and cake heaven. Dribble will ooze As I struggle to choose Twixt the lightest meringue And sweet sharp tang Of a lemon torte (now there’s a thought) You see, for me, To accompany tea There is nothing finer Alongside my china Than a filled choux bun Round as the sun Smothered in icing Am I enticing? Do you feel as I About apple pie? Do you long to linger Over Jamaican ginger? Then smile at me coyly Over a delicate doyley And win my affection With an iced confection And if your butter cream Is a midsummer dream And your Îles Flottantes Melts on my tongue I’ll give you the thumbs up And let you lick the crumbs up!
