Poem for Shannon Matthews ‘MISSING’ Screamed the headlines as Karen Matthews’ haggard face hogged every front page Shannon’s favourite bear in her arms. Community spirit rallied round all united in the hunt for the Missing girl. ‘I like your ringtone’ her Mother said seconds after her Daughter’s discovery. But truth will out, it always does. After sentencing Karen Matthews stood in the dock, the image of neglect. At last everyone could see What was really missing, was Love. ------------------------------------------------------ Gardening A snapshot, five years old Amidst trees Your hand in mine Wrinkled, hard worn worker’s hands Tanned with a lifetime of outdoor work Big bear’s hands, protecting my child paws With your strong grip Hands that held babies, tended gardens, Planted new life. Freezing hands, just like mine, Slick with the aqueous cream That protected you from the elements And eased your shedding skin. Healing hands, gone now, but I can still feel them Grandad’s hands.

Although I prefer traditional metre and/or rhyme, I like the line "Liverpool rain oozes from the skies crying eyes", Katy.
