The Homecoming I saw the stars tonight A myriad faces in the black Smiling down and saying “Wanderer welcome back” I saw the moon tonight A silver sentinel in the sky Beaming down and saying “Wanderers you and I” I saw the wind tonight A spectre floating past Whispering soft and saying “Wanderer home at last” ©Marian Barker Winter Draws On T’heating’s not going on till November I think yer getting soft I’ve paid for double glazing And cladding for the loft T’heating’s not going on till November Do I have to tell tha’ twice? Tha’d better put a jumper on That red one’s rather nice T’heating’s not going on till November So cover up tha’ chest Stop yer blummin’ mithering And put on tha’ thermal vest T’heating’s not going on till November Do you think I’m made of brass? Put tha’ fleecy joggers on And cover up tha’ … legs! T’heating’s not going on till November There’s nowt more to be said Put fluffy slippers on tha’ feet And a woolly hat upon tha’ head T’heating’s not going on till November Of course I’m not being tight Put on tha’ winter drawers And turn off that kitchen light! ©Marian Barker Uncoupled If we were a couple We’d go places together Not meet there But we aren’t – so we do If we were a couple We’d go home together Not each to our own But we aren’t – so we do If we were a couple We’d wake up together Not both on our own But we aren’t – so we do If we were a couple We’d make plans together For Christmas and New Year But we aren’t – so we don’t ©Marian Barker
