I don't write much but when I get something in my head I have to get it all out as it drives me crazy.

An open letter to Death Why and what is death? Why do we die or in that instance live? What purpose are we and what do we do that is important? Where do we go when we take our final breath? Do we travel along the tunnel to the end of the light, or are we just blown out like a candle flame? Does it matter what we did in life- the hurt and the love we gave. Will it appease the God above that we helped out when we could? Do you get points or in good favour when you leave your mortal body if you played by the rules down here on earth? What if you were bad and not very nice do u still get a 2nd chance or down into the fiery pits below? Can you atone and make it right or is that it you live and die by your choices? Death oh where do I begin I am young and fear your frightening touch, the horror and knowing will surely be to much, will it be made clear what you are about when we come to meet? Will you speak so I can hear your voice? Will your words comfort or terror me? Or will I welcome your gentle embrace when it’s time to take my place. Will I be in pain and will I welcome thee or will it happen suddenly? Will I know what has happened and will I hover over my body? Do the dead just lie inside there boxes deep in the ground, do they no people are above? Are they just shells discarded and no longer needed? Do they know their loved ones visit them and say silent prayers and shed tears? Do we stay as ghost, wandering confused and not knowing what to do? Or is there a choice about staying with the ones you love, can you visit them and show your still there? Death what do I know about you, only that you take the good, the bad, the young, the old and sick too. You are indiscriminate and power, wealth or money do not hold you back, there are no barriers that you cannot pass. The heroes and villains all go side by side in your grip and journey with you, is it their final ride? They say every1 has a date that you will come to for them, is this true and can that date change? Death why so silent and mysterious? I need to know what happens when I go for my own piece of mind and to help others who have lost loved ones to your embrace. Are you gentle when guiding them to their final place or do you torment and hound them and make them suffer? Do you tell them about what is to come or lead them silently all knowing and mysterious? Do you answer their questions as they desperately shout them and plead for answers? Death I hope you and I have awhile yet too meet, let my questions go un-answered and allow me to ponder. Please let me live, explore and enjoy this life. Let me have a chance to make a difference to others and reach my potential whatever that may be. Death you are a complete enigma to me Sue 1.11.09

Hi Sue, Yes, your first piece on WOL is indeed a powerful one. I look forward to reading more of your work. Winston

Thank you both for the welcome. My partner lost their Dad recently & the night I wrote this I had just lost my Great Aunt. I don't usually write so deep but it all just came out.

Hello Sue, your words struck a chord with me as I lost someone very close a couple of years ago. I feel that to enjoy our lives we have to jump in and go for it - you sound a very caring thoughtful person, but joy is, I think, as important as anything else in this world. So . . I hope you enjoy being part of WOL, and will write more - and that, indeed, it will be many many years before you get an answer to your questions! We're all in the same boat, and as you get older, that's a comfort.
