Biography

Since my last profile in 2008 I have graduated from the University of Newcastle with a PGC in Creative Writing in 2009. I still work as a Civil Servant in Durham, but when I'm not in the office I visit local schools as a Business Ambassador. This entails assisting the teachers in business enterprise days and promoting the world of work. I am learning to write songs as I play the ukulele and hope to go on song writing courses with the Arvon Foundation.

'Tommy' was written about a sculpture of a First World Soldier at Seaham, County Durham. Tommy A soldier sits and ponders About where he has wandered He has comeback from the war Marching long distances Made his feet blistered and sore Tommy and his comrades lived in trenches When it rained, it drenched them The enemy, they were fighting As he spotted another sighting With his gun, he took aim With one shot, he made his foe lame He had seen blood, guts and gore His friends all injured, battered and torn 11th hour, 11th minute , 11th day How he felt, he could not say It was Armistice Day! Everyone put down their grenades and their guns The war had been won There was peace Finally, the conflict had ceased To help those who survived He’ll do all that he can Tommy went to war as a boy And came back as a man We will remember them!
