Donations are essential to keep Write Out Loud going

I HAVE SEEN THE FUTURE

I have seen the Future

And it is the Past.

Rationing and the blackmarket

Curfews

Rousing speeches from the Leader

And Death

Plenty of Death.

When your electrity and water supply  fail

When garbage rots in the streets

When there are not enough doctors and nurses to staff the hospitals

When the police force is denuded by sickness

When the Army is shooting looters

When Anarchy comes knocking to take what you have

The very trusses of society will creak

And we will discover that

Democracy and Civilisation

Which we have taken for granted for so long

Were very fragile constructs indeed.

Thanks, MC. I do enjoy a good conspiracy theory, especially one which propounds Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are demons and that America has a “gay bomb”.

You’re probably right, MC. I’ll take the advice of John Down the Pub.

JC - your faith in BBC News has me asking why I should place my
trust in a media outlet that now feels it needs to put "Why you can
trust BBC News" at the base of its online page?
As for Farage - he's a politician...'nuff said!.

I too am cautious of experts, MC. I prefer to see what Nigel Farage has to say about this rather than the WHO and the Government's Chief Medical Officer.
You are quite right, Po, that it is important to make merry while we can. But equally important to understand what we are facing.
It does, indeed, Martin, feel like a nightmare that we will soon wake up from.

I just feel increasingly hour by hour now I am in a science fiction film. At least in Sci-fi you know its only fiction right?

I tend to view "experts" with a pinch of salt. They are people with a
view themselves and are not infallible. They exist most notably in
areas of employment that most of us do not occupy and can see
themselves as arbiters of judgement and opinion that come
perilously close to "sacrosanct". And how interesting when "experts"
disagree...not unknown. Experts are products of their time and place and neither is set in stone. JC - how about one of your blogs
featuring the Roy Orbison hit "Running Scared"? Sounds right up
your street at this time. Bet you could do something with it !!
P.S. Hey - what do you know...my solo lifestyle in retirement is now trendy - I'm
a "self-Isolationist".

I trust, firstly, the NHS website, and secondly, for news, the BBC. I trust Facebook for fake news and conspiracy theories.

I don’t think there are any experts for this sort of thing JC do you? It all sounds like best guessing to me!

Surely you’re not suggesting we listen to the experts, Graham? I’d rather wait to see what Nigel Farage says.
I get those too, Greg. Rites of passage, I suppose. But I’ll whack the first oik who offers me his seat on a bus.

I think our pop-up ads on Write Out Loud are all personalised. I used to get ones for Asian Babes - unsolicited, of course - but now they are generally for funeral plans. Depressing.
