thanx for the kind comments lads - Sweet are my favourite band of all time (still) and I've bought all their singles, albums, books, gigs - still going strong (Although only the lead guitarist is still playing) but they do still sound great.
Terrible way for Brian Connolly to go - you're right - and he did live in Hayes along with Mick Tucker (drums).
A lot of the music was naff - but still better than 90% of the auto-tuned rubbish in the charts today ?
I touched on some of the glam traits in an earlier piece (similar style and a bit of crossover) but if you fancy listening to how I changed that earlier poem into a glam song - follow the link ?
Thanks again for commenting ? x

An exciting era, though to be honest a lot of the music was a bit naff.

I worked for three record companies from 1974 - 1981. EMI, United Artists and WEA. Not on the glamour side, I was more production and distribution, but nevertheless rubbed up against some of the glam rockers of the day, hardly recognisable without their woad. I left the business as punk and ska were at their height.

Sweet - the lead singer was Brian Connolly. The band rented a house for a while near Heathrow Airport. Brian and another guy (not a band member) chatted up my sister and her mate in a pub in Hayes Town and drove them home, so I met him in my Mum's front room. He came from quite a humble background, Glasgow I think.

one ballroom blitz of a poem Ian! I forget the lead singers name now but I would not wish the terrible way he suffered from alcoholism on my worst enemy.

In the meantime-ROCK ON BIG GUY!
