The Side Kick
The Side Kick
A purring cat
Sat before a raging fire
The smell of cinnamon buns
Outside the snow falls
Rubbing away ice on a window
Looking out into the whiteness
A smile caught
In the reflected dusk
New buds bursting
From green shoots
The blue sky
Flecked with white clouds
Raindrops dripping from trees
The fresh cool air
Mirrors in the pond
Of cool clear water
Warm sea water
Lapping against a sandy shore
A blazing sun in a cloudless sky
The faraway cry of seagulls
Hand in hand along a cliff top
The waves crashing over rocks
Cold cider quenching walking thirst
Golden pretty eyes
The leaves falling
Gathering around solid trees
Damp mist in the morning
Grey and brown memories
Of what the world was like
The glimpse of a face
Cowled behind a woollen hood
These are the things you bring to me
When sitting down at the end of day
And going over all the seconds
Minutes hours days of life
You are there in the frame
By my side holding hands
like the changing seasons
Every step along the way
