Hope
Hope
Hope springs eternal, or so they say –
Sometimes I wonder, as each new day
Brings unseen headaches. If I could see
Them onward winging, then I would be
Ready, and armoured; equipped for the fight –
But they are devious, and I take flight
From all their torment, all unannounced
Knocking me backwards, nastily pounced
For new attack, and so they may –
For I’m unprotected, and so they hold sway.
Heavy and burdened this day I may be –
I vow tomorrow they won’t defeat me –
I will remember that God’s armour’s there
For me –
And it’s free -
What better to wear?
Front, back, and sides, I’m protected, so I
Can chase my demons, can shout, with loud cry:
“Go! – for your poisonous darts cannot do
Harm any longer –
For my God is stronger
And mightier than you!”
If this sounds hackneyed, don’t scoff.
What I say
May give another soul
Hope for the day.
