The Silence Of Strangers

Strangers are in town

all wearing masks

suspicious

over cautious

avoiding eye contact

furtive as they move about

distant in their approach

secretive and

not saying much

who are these strangers

who have showed up

in all our places

are they local

are they legit

are they looking to rob

or take our lives

they do not speak

we cannot read their lips

it is such a strange time

when people move about

in masks and

never say a word.
