V.E. DAY 1945-2020
War may be the ultimate insanity but there can be righteous madness in it,
We British are slow to anger but once roused our aim is to win it.
The elation of a nation that prevails can be derided
By those who call it jingoism in the freedom that's provided.
But celebration embraces commemoration for those who suffered and died
So feel free to call it what you want when tyranny is denied.

I agree that the defeat of fascism and the lives that were sacrficed to that end, and 75 years of peace in western Europe are things to be celebrated and commemorated, MC. It makes me angry that some tarnish such noble sentiments by attaching other, tawdry causes to them - and make some of us uneasy about waving the Union flag.
