Last day
As the last of summer fell from the trees
and the sky turned orange,
darksouls descended and ravaged the lands.
Like fury itself they fed upon the souls of the living,
stealing the very life from their lips and casting them aside.
Like a disease they spread,
consuming all they happened upon and seeking out the hidden ones.
They took them all.
The men, and the women.
Not even the young were spared.
Their screams echoed over the hills,
somehow sounding more terrible on the rebound, filled with fear.
When it was over, and the scourge had fled,
nothing was left.
The land, infected and ruined,
bore the scars of death and
will remain forever so.
