Easy, Hard

Loving you is easy

Leaving him is hard

Loving you is easy

Like breathing spring air

After a long winter

My favorite scent, invigorating, yet safe

Leaving him is hard

Like self-surgery

Dissecting every ounce of me

And cutting flesh with my own hand

Loving you is easy

Like a nap on a summer's day

After a cool shower

In silk sheets

Leaving him is hard

Like trying to cram all I own

Into a tiny trunk

And compartmentalize my heart

Loving you is easy

Like coming home after a trip

And you actually cleaned before you left

And it feels like you belong

Leaving him is hard

Like staring at a bandage

Not a bandaid, those are trivial

But debating if a mortal wound is ready

Loving you is easy

Like speaking my native tongue

Leaving him is hard

Like leaving my hometown

Loving you is easy

Like floating in the pool

Leaving him is hard

Like drowning in the ocean

Loving you is easy

Like driving home on the local streets

Leaving him is hard

Like flying blind in a sandstorm

Loving you is easy

Leaving him is hard

You don't get one

Without the other

Loving you is easy

Leaving him is hard

And hearts torn in two

Don't beat the same
