The defeat of dementia

As we get older our brain shrinks,

Losing its ability on how it thinks.

To use it or lose it rings  very  true,

And there are many things we can do.

To be aware of the risk factors is a good sign,

To keep it alive and avoid decline.

Lowering your alcohol intake is a good thing to do,

But fortunately you can still enjoy a glass or two.

Look after your heart and avoid pain,

What's good for your heart is good for your brain.

Smoking is catastrophic ,you must quit,

It encourages dementia in your brain to sit.

Keep fit and break a sweat,

Get a bike and a helmet.

Exercising can be good fun,

A relaxing  walk or a good run.

Improving your memory and attention span,

Exercise regularly, you know you can !

Being around other humans protects your brain,

Socialising regularly quels the pain.

Get enough sleep give your brain a rest,

Five hours or more is simply the best.

Eat a healthy balanced diet to survive,

Fruit, veg and nuts,to keep your brain alive.

If you are suffering a hearing decline,

To get a hearing aid will be just fine.

Dementia goes hand in hand with a hearing loss,

Rules the brain and becomes the boss.

Avoid isolation and make conversations clear,

Plug a hearing aid into each ear.

Prevention is a better option than attempts to cure,

We can defeat dementia, that's for sure  !

Excellent advice Hugh! Also try and keep your friends close, and think about you have still got, and should be thankful for - a home, reasonable health, a pet, or whatever, rather than moaning about what you don't have anymore! Being on WOL also helps, I think!

Good one Hugh. The "...and a helmet" bit made me smile and summed the whole thing up, take care of your head.
