Fearful?
In olden times great monsters roamed
Spirits and devils hid behind each door
Superstition governed fearful peasants
Subsisting uneducated naive and poor
Centuries on and we have progressed
Affluence burnished the common weal
Giants and dragons imagined no longer
For today's modern monsters are real
Frankensteins stride brazen and free
No wonder in our hearts we're afraid
The sweet irony is we created them
The rods on our backs are man-made
The remorseless Medusa hides its stare
As Facebook's talons pinch your hide
Your identity petrified then packaged
Sold to the highest bidder cut and dried
Google the Ogre snatches your thoughts
An insatiable cyber-space Griffon vulture
While nothing feeds social division like
The Minotaurs of mad Cancel-Culture
Frankensteins stride brazen and free
No wonder in our hearts we're afraid
The sweet irony is we created them
The rods on our backs are man-made
Cyclops-eyed banshees infest the media
Swarms of twisted professional haters
Easy midst their middle-class comforts
They never had to eat stale potatoes
Add the looming Purgatory of Brexit, its
Hydra-headed tentacles devils incarnate
Worse, mocking Earth like Imps from Hell
The vengeful Furies of a changing climate
Frankensteins stride brazen and free
No wonder in our hearts we're afraid
The sweet irony is we created them
The rods on our backs are man-made
But one modern monster grinning, cunning,
Roams not wild in some exotic far-off land,
Surveillance culture under your very nose,
Its the svelte silicon monster in your hand
Yes, Apps allure but Big Brother loves them
Monstrous COVID will soon want your dabs
It began with Vampires in some dark forest
Took down Trump via China's military labs
Reasons to be fearful too many to count
Bleed from these Behemoths world-wide,
The Artificial Intelligence dystopia is next,
Me fearful? I'm frankly bloody terrified...
