The Pandemic Diary
The tale of twenty twenty told through the seasons of this year
From Spring through to Winter, a year of living with Covid fear
The virus arrived in Spring, from China where it started life
Spread quickly across the country, bringing sorrow, pain and strife
Our lives were changed forever, lockdown was difficult for us all
We didn't realise way back then that we were in for such a long haul
During the first lockdown we were blessed with many sunny days
Helping us get through this time as we adapted to “new normal” ways
Spring turned into Summer, July fourth was our Independence Day
Some of the restrictions were lifted, we believed the end was on its way
Encouraged to eat out to help out, our lives started to get a little better
As people took their holidays, typically, of course, the weather got much wetter
Summer turned into Autumn then children returned to school at last
Coronavirus cases started to rise, a second wave was approaching fast
To slow infection rates, more rules and regulations came into place
The message was clear wash your hands, mask your face and make space
Soldiers carried out mass testing in response to NHS concerns and fears
Track and trace did not do the trick, so the country was divided into tiers
Autumn turned into Winter there was only one thing on all our minds
Could we celebrate Christmas with family, without the threat of being fined
Good news arrived, when the virus vaccine was given the go ahead
The news brought controversy and hope that it would stop the virus spread
Talk of Christmas resumed and the tiers were shuffled like a deck of cards
Only a couple of places were dealt a good hand, the south took it very hard
Now here we are in the bleak mid Winter, this diary of the pandemic I have penned
Like every good story this tale has a beginning a middle and desperately needs an end
