Failures of the heart

add a layer of toughness

making it difficult to find answers

in still hot ashes

Mercifully fading from my mind

love was once somewhere in there

in between the absent days

But I had to guess most of the time

And I was terrible at it

Yes, I’ll do it again

Always trusting I’ll eventually get it right
