POETRY GIG

Annabelle Annabelle give it a rest

take a break

chill.

I knew when I got the itinerary

every T crossed, every I dotted

that it would be a disaster,

over managed

in spite of all your hopes and expectations.

The venue with its local radio presence

had nowhere to park,

got there too early.

"No not this entrance - Tony will take you round."

Doormen, name tags,

kids looking bored,

a cold cafe with live music,

a blacked out stage,

hard outdoor chairs.

Annabelle Annabelle with your clipboard

effusively greeting the confused

though your head half turned distracted

give it a rest

take a break for goodness sake,

chill.

Then after all that

some of the audience left during my reading,

the self sacrifice,

the artifice of it all,

the pointlessness of exposure.

Sorry Greg I missed your icing on the cake comment! I nearly gave up after that, but thanks to zoom all is well.

As I thought, Ray. I was away in Spain. Sounds like a good one to have missed ...

Hi Greg. Time to spill the beans. The Nomad Theatre project a few years back in East Horsley. Put the cuffs on me.

Brian, I'm twisting on a spit, but thanks anyway.

Kimberly, it's not as bad as stand up comedy, but there was nothing funny in this . I feel for you.

Paul, It does take some balls to present your work, but if the audience likes you it's not hard work. That day was a baptism of fire; I don't think it would have made a difference who was reading frankly.
I rely on empathy so much and am willing to work for it, but have no day job....

Stephen , you picked a good one there. Wrong time wrong place.

Thanks for liking this, Julie, Aisha, Holden and New Shoes ...

Thanks all ! Ray

Yes, this is great. The end reminds me of an attempt to address a meeting on the last afternoon of the Oval Test match in 2005.

Ray - stick with WOL. We can ignore you without you knowing.

Only joking...you're one of the leading lights.

Where was this, Ray? Or are your lips sealed?! I think I know, but I may be wrong ...
