There is a hole in the world, 
And all the common sense and good will pours in with the tumbling seas,
And it’s not for want of knowledge or understanding that we stand back and watch it flow away,
It’s just that we imagine that this is a problem that can be saved for another day, 
But other days aren’t coming,
And the price of our wanton, wilful ignorance is numbing, 
See, you learn from a young age not to, “Shit on your own doorstep,”
So it seems logical that learning not to shit on everybody else’s is a fairly simple concept? 
But the sad truth is, “Out of sight, out of mind,”
We’re happy to, “Stride forward,” whether or not we leave the rest behind, 
And you can deny it but in an evermore interconnected world it takes conscious choice to be blind,
To close your heart, avert your eyes and deliberately ignore the blatant warning signs,
Temptation is the “Candy floss,” that diverts us from a, “Proper meal,”
And greedy need of the sugar rush is the one thing that we most want to feel, 
But the ever looming glucose crash that is the flipside of that deal, 
Should be enough to make us see this short term satisfaction isn’t real,
And while we scrabble for scraps in this glass and concrete coliseum, 
It would be true to say that we, “Can’t see the wood for the trees,”
But will we only see this once the woods are gone, and trees are kept in a museum? 
As remnants of, “Better times,” when we just did as we pleased?
And to all those that think suburbia is their, “Natural environment,”
There’s one thing and one thing only that I have to say,
All it takes is ignorance and voices numbed in silence, 
To fail to realise the real world, is fast slipping away, 
There’s a hole in the world, 
And all good will and common sense pours in with the tumbling seas,
And it’s not for want of knowledge or understanding that we stand back and watch it flow away, 
We understand that one day we’ll have to stop the burning woods and rising seas,
We just haven’t quite caught on that, that day is today.
