The Day I Met Tony Curtis
St Patrick’s Day sparked a memory
I think it was March 1994
I was pregnant for the first time
There would later be two pregnancies more
Sadly I miscarried that Easter
But blessed with two boys in later years
It was a difficult time for us both
Back then we shed too many tears
This is just the background to my story
And it explains the reason why
I was celebrating St Patrick’s Day in Dublin
And not drinking the Irish bars dry
Watching Tony Curtis in my hotel room
Talking on TV about a meet and greet
He would be signing his book tomorrow
In a shop down in O’Connell Street
The next day we were all in the pub
I left those getting merry on Guinness behind
My friend came along with me
I had something more important on my mind
We joined the long queue outside
As we got closer to the front I purchased his book
I remember it cost me a small fortune
£18.20 I just took a quick look
I can’t remember what he said to me
I just remember hearing him speak
I remember he looked rather scruffy
But I still grinned for the rest of the week
Clutching my new prized possession
I bought my friend a small bunch of flowers
To thank her for waiting patiently with me
And giving up a couple of hours
This is how I remember that day
A memory that took me back in time
Strange how things just spring to mind
Nice to reminisce and record in rhyme
This was removed from yesterdays
This is my memory of that day
I just wrote it now in quick time
I may rewrite it again another day
But for now here it is written in rhyme
