Stranger in the Crowd.
Unnoticed his shadow moves across the sidewalk and fades into the night
Sweaty palms and shaky nerves
He clings to the fabric of his jacket
The only thing larger than his fears are the holes in the wall.
The thought made his fists sting
He sits down in the same seat every Saturday
His eyes stare across the counter
She never looks up
At least not at him
Everyone's talking but he doesn't hear a word
If he's had one he's had three
There's one less sober man out tonight
By the time he leaves he's aged twenty years
Worn and faded as the night wears on
He comes home to chaos in the silence
All the demons rattle his bones and twist his thoughts around
In the dark he's all alone
He could scream but not a soul would hear him
Sweat rolls down his forehead as he cries himself a river
He feels like half a man
All this pain and pressure
The heartbreak
The wasted youth
Every wrong turn he ever made
It all adds up
How many secrets can one man keep?
His heart turned inside out and his feelings invisible because be to be strong you can't have feelings
Even in the storm He's the strongest
Nobody knows his name
Except me
I wanna lean in and hold him tight
I find him when I'm not looking
Living in his mixed up world
Walking past me on the sidewalk
Sitting at the same red light
To my left
Coaching little League
Sipping coffee with a book
Reaching for the same box of cereal
Holding open that heavy door
Counting back my change
To my right
Smiling at me from across the room
In my passenger seat
He's everywhere
He's just a stranger in the crowd

This is really good. Powerful. I could feel the emotion all the way through. Great poem.
