So Much For the Everyday
So Much For the Everyday
The music of silence is the sound
Of our souls breathing.
Their slow, strongly rhythmic cadence
Is that of vigorous but frail hearts beating.
But you must listen, carefully, should you wish to hear it;
The tumult of living can easily drown and overwhelm
That steady breath until, almost exhausted,
We lay down our burden and just listen.
Listen to the music of silence.
There, buried in the interstices of the everyday
Lie sparks of inspiration and the germinating seeds
Of wonderment and surprise that launch the fervour
Of fascination in enquiring minds. In a moment
We can sail on a rough and dangerous ocean,
One that leads, finally, to a magical continent of discovery.
It is the discovery, in the end, of one's self.
