The Carpenter
In his youth he had found a hammer
Which he believed to be perfect at first
But as years went by, he discovered its flaws.
Later in life he found another hammer
He claimed it made him happier.
Even though it sometimes gave him pain
It brought him much joy and fit him perfectly
It was what he had been searching for!
The old hammer had hurt him more times than not
It had pounded his fingers more than once
But He had built his toolbox around it
The old hammer had him in its grip.
He didn’t love it as much as the new one
But it was familiar and didn’t complicate
For why would he choose the new and unknown
No matter how wonderful it may appear.
He was forced to make a decision,
He knew he had to take action
The new hammer he would discard.
His choice is difficult to understand,
But who knows what’s inside a man’s heart.
