September
September is
the middle child
lost among the other months
not quite summer
not quite fall
a month that never gets its turn
to show what it can do
never called on
never acknowledged
not asked to do anything exceptional
the more popular October
gets the better grades
while September just sits quietly
in the back of the room
trying to look inconspicious
trying to blend in.
