Mark Radcliffe’s recent Radio 4 programme "Hovis has left the building" (March 18 2008), has sparked a national interest in the work of Bolton poet Hovis Presley (1960-2005). With coverage in the review columns of the national press, a mention in Hello Magazine, soaring sales of his collected works "Poetic off Licence", and a nationwide interest in his web-site, the hugely sympathetic appraisal of his life and work, featuring Johnny Vegas, Lucy Porter and Badly Drawn Boy among others, triggered a huge and spontaneous response. The unassuming Bolton performer might have been lost for words if he realised just how popular he was going to be.

Now Dave Morgan’s adaptation of Poetic off Licence, Hovis in Wonderland, first produced in 2007 has been revived, with shows at Bolton Little Theatre on Friday 28 March and The Royal Exchange Manchester on 4 April. A CD of the production has also been made at Bolton’s Clockhouse Studios to support the Hovis Presley Memorial Fund.

Dave Morgan says “I have had emails and ‘phone calls from across the country. Motorists were literally pulling into lay byes and service stations to catch Mark Radcliffe’s programme. From those who had never heard of Hovis before, to those who remembered his stage, radio or television appearances, interest has been enormous”. The show starts at 8.00pm and features a set from Bolton singer-songwriter, Tabitha Sims, a long-standing friend of Hovis, and is introduced by Dave Morgan himself.
