Face To Face
You are my brother, sister,
And if we just stood face to face,
And chatted at length about the shortcomings of the human race,
Then we would see,
That there is very little difference between you and me,
You are my brother, sister,
Son, Mother,
We have so much in common with one another,
That it seems reckless and ill informed to jump to assumptions,
Our beliefs and societies serve similar functions,
And it is those strengths that we should warmly embrace,
So that looking into each others eyes should be as if we gazed into a mirror,
So the things that we share should seem clearer,
And our differences seem lesser than they’re made out to be,
Until all that stands between us is, “You and me,”
And seven billion, “You and me’s,” stand face to face,
It seems to me that real conversations might occur in that space,
And perhaps we might even find friendship and common ground,
With no other needless distractions around,
And all the, “Us and them’s,” might turn into, “You and me,”
Now wouldn’t that be a thing to see?
