"A Fall to Remember" Part 2
By: Piper Lindsey
But mine story is especially different and this is how my story
Unfolds
Walking down the dark hallway
Wishing your hand wasn’t in mine
The thought of what is about to become
Gives me the feeling to hurl
The tightness of your grip
Brings me out of my wishes
The taste of the warm blood
Filling my mouth
As we lay down having the worst time of our life
This year is going to be the same
No escape
The mask can only do so much protecting us from the sickness
But it can’t hide the anger
Spilling from your body
Little kids afraid to step into our yard
Mothers telling them to go no further
You would think it would be a haunted house come to life
A house where happiness didn’t exist
The Blizzard that appears on Christmas Eve
Takes everything we once knew and hoped for
The smell of cheap tobacco and
A new bottle of alcohol that never seems to end
And the sound of shattering glass
As we try to mend a broken home
Letting go of another year
Hoping this year will change
Giving prayers that never seemed to work
So to hear that another year is to come
Makes me want to end a life
And the voices that never seem to stop
Echoing in my head to keep silent
“Shut the f*** up”
She screams and cries
As the voices wake up to the sound of slamming screen doors
The flash of the light
That comes and goes with each blow
Never knowing if this is the fight that you might lose
Being called worthless
Because you tell him no
Being told I’m a lost hope
Because he didn’t stop
Being told I’m trash
Because he didn’t care
Now your wishing someone would notice the depression
And the read lines under her long sleeves
The colour of blood staining
The hardwood floor
The house starts to shake
As we tumble down
And the roof is gone
And so are you
Maybe our house has come to life after all
Eating everything and everyone who tries to help
So if I were you just keep on walking
And ignoring the screams
That shines bright when the stars forget to
