Signs

So the temperature’s still rising

as the polar cap declines,

and it won’t be too much longer

till we’re drowning in the signs.

We’d been warned of global warming,

and eroding coastal lines,

but it’s strange how many people

say they never saw the signs.

With our factory emissions

and retreating timberlines,

you might think we would have noticed,

but we didn’t see the signs.

All those fossil fuel merchants

and the owners of the mines,

with their coffers overflowing

didn’t want to see the signs.

What on earth are we all thinking,

while the planet realigns,

and the floodplains are all sinking.

It’s too late to see the signs.

Well written, Trevor.
I fully endorse the sentiment although I do so hypocritically having benefitted (and continue to benefit) from my time with the coal industry.

A fine climate poem, Trevor. We need more of them. Well done!
