Before
A still, clear pool like unmarred ice
A two dimensional window into fathomless depths
Time not yet begun it’s relentless wheel, stasis offered to your awestruck eyes
Dare you toss a stone to shatter the time before?
The innocent beginning of all, cast into the yawning void, the birth of a universe held in ambivalent grasp
Dare you not toss a stone to shatter this eternal before?
Causality stretches out before you, lives to grow and snuff, in gentle exhalation or violent suffocation
Connection’s threads weave a tapestry of love, hate, beauty, death, and rebirth unending
Each seeming tragedy answered by a miracle, and in between the joyous mundane
That peaceful stream between roaring rapids of violent fervor, and the plunging depths of despair
That stream beside which animals drink and forests flower, and cool breeze’s breath whisper in to balm the weary and the wounded
Mind’s image slowly fading from considering thought you glance down one last time at that still surface of before
And smile at the sight of rippling spread, the birth of time begot by sinking stone, cast from who knows where
