Two Hands
Two hands pressed against a window pane
as the packed train departs the station
A mother holds her child close and tight
heading to an unknown destination
He watches blinking away the tears
until the train is far out of sight
Mother and child escape the danger
Father stays on to fight the brave fight
For the first time in their family life
they will not be together tonight
There will be no bedtime fairytale
no hugs, cuddles and kisses good night
In the morning, when tomorrow comes
they will wake in two different worlds
They will face the day and all it brings
as the reality of war unfurls
A family torn apart by war
I pray they will be reconciled soon
Free to hold each other once again
hand in hand under a peaceful moon
