Sun, Sky And Birds

I see the events 2 thousand miles away.
And the tragic price innocent people pay.
Then I think to myself how lucky we are.
To live in a land with no battlefield scar.

To go about our lives, peaceful and free.
We take that for granted it seems to me.
No need to calculate the distance of guns.
No need for parents to give up their sons.

Our children need not fear an ariel raid.
No need to look above and feel afraid.
Sun, sky and birds is all they should see.
So it looks like the sky God wants it to be.

I am so very lucky to live in these times.
Not be on the end of callous war crimes.
England is my home, I've never seen war.
I realise how lucky I am, like never before.

Indeed. We need to be reminded occasionally of what our own
parents and their ancestors endured during the 20th century.
In historical terms, Europe has been a military millstone around
the necks of ordinary people, with its tendency towards conflict
for whatever reason. Not much changes, it seems.
