Until It's Light
Sitting here alone, missing my Mum.
I'm so glad this day is nearly done.
Today I've walked every room and hall.
Restless and waiting for one more call.
That call of course will never be made.
Mum's at peace, I should not be afraid.
But some days, the pain still gets to me.
I only wish I had more days pain free.
My bedtime soon, no company tonight.
So may God look after me until its light.

The feeling of loss never quite goes away. I wrote the following
after my mother passed on and it still resonates with what I experienced thirty years ago.
It's a while now since she passed away,
And time has hurried on,
But still I hear her softly say
"You'll miss me when I'm gone".
With each and every passing day
I sadly think upon
Those quiet words I heard her say:
"You'll miss me when I'm gone".
