Jolly Fine Words
Words are jolly fine!
They are a veritable mine
Of communication tools,
Enlightening, intriguing, illuminating,
Freely available to any old fool,
As I am duly demonstrating!
The words and phrases Shakespeare used
Forsooth, are equally available to you and me,
They are ready to hand and entirely free.
I can adapt and modify the Bard’s great words,
Imagining that they are all my own!
“Is this a poem that I see before me?”
Ah, now, I can hear you all groan!
“Let Halifax in Calder melt
And the wide arch of the ranged Piece Hall,
Fall, come wind, come wrack.
Who dare apprehend me for a felon?”
These words, I contest, my lord,
Were borrowed rather than stolen.
My client has acknowledged his debt
By using those quotation marks.
He must, above all, I will contend,
To his own self be true!
As there is no loan charge
And no copywrite protection
On any of these wonderful words,
I am going to channel my inner
William Shakespeare, at my own discretion!
How much in this dear world is free?
Fresh air, water (sorta) and poetry!
Oh, yes, and Writeoutloud!
