View From 30,000 Feet

entry picture

Looking down from 30,000 feet
racing at high speed across the sky
Like rippled snowy ski tracks
fluffy white clouds play tricks on the eye

A layer of stippled icing peaks
or a sea of cotton wool
A thick smothering of shaving foam
or white shag pile deep and full

Now there is a change in formation
mistaken for land meeting sea
Resembling an icy ocean
where small icebergs have broken free

As we start the gradual descent
grey hazy mist distorts my view
Upon landing I gaze upwards
to the sky above the palest blue
