'The Party'

I'm late to the party, I'm very late.
I'm just so happy to see you wait.
All the candles have been blown.
Lots of people already gone home.

The music by now is soft and slow.
Bright lights now turned down low.
I'm late, as another place I had to be.
I wasn't sure if you'd wait for me.

That 'other place' was a lonely Hell.
Everyone has the same story to tell.
I dreamt of this party every night.
To be home, no more battles to fight.

The missing pieces, gone for good.
The party went on...I knew it would.
You are older now, and I'm older too.
But I'm just so happy to be with you.

This is actually about somebody returning to life/society (The Party)after a long spell away due to various reasons (mental illness, the Army, etc) they realise life went on as expected without them, but still long for the things and people they will never see again, eventfully they are just happy to be back....thank you for reading.
