Complex Creature
Complex creature
How can someone understand me?
If I cannot understand myself?
I can keep the dark feelings at bay
If I don’t share them with anyone else
People think I have it together
But man, they’ve got it wrong
Maintaining a certain facade
One I’ve kept going— for so long
I’m a complex creature, dear
Made of many things
Not quite sure of who I am
And terrified of what the knowing
Might bring
I’m searching for a place
That might feel like home
Perhaps that doesn't exist— for creatures like me
And I’m meant to be alone…
Or perhaps a part of me
Lives everywhere
A little of my identity here….
And then a little bit over there…
Eclectic
An old soul
Who is young at heart
But does it really matter
Where I end
Or where I start?
In some ways conventional
And in other ways— not at all
But hey
If there is a part of you in many places
There are many hands to catch you— when you fall
So, when I wonder— what I was meant to be
And where I was meant to go
My purpose—and my worth
I remind myself that a piece of me belongs everywhere
And I'm a citizen of the earth
