Normal Service Resumed

So the jubilee celebrations
have been and gone
A memorable weekend
was had by everyone

We watched the parades
and all the pomp and pageantry
The spotlight focused
on the royal family

On Sunday night the party
had to come to a close
The Queen treated the crowds
with a final wave and pose

Over the last days
there had been talk of unity
Scenes of sharing and caring
within the community

Four days of escape
from the usual doom and gloom
By Monday morning
normal service was to resume

The nest of vipers
had been busy working away
Now a vote of confidence
was to be held today

The senseless, cruel war
is still raging in Ukraine
And the weather forecast
is predicting heavy rain

Fuel prices are at their highest
ever recorded
The cost of living crises
is constantly reported

Airport misery
thousands left holiday bereft
Our local news headlined
multiple car thefts

It’s hard to remember
all those of moments of glee
How easily they are erased
from my memory

Even though I was at home
it felt like a holiday
Time away from the constant bad news
served up each day

It made a welcome change
to see so much joy and cheer
I wish we could do it all again
this time next year

Today's 'normal' is beyond comprehension. 😞

We can only hope Stephen, although it’s not looking very likely. Thanks for the comment and like.

A tour de force, Julie. As New Labour (who don't seem too bad now) said 'Things can only get better'.

One of things about Belgium is that we have national day celebrations every 21st July, so we can do it again every year!
