For My Dad

If things where different, different as can be.
Me there for Dad, and my Dad there for me.
Alas it wasn't to be...too young to know why.
But that's doesn't mean tomorrow, I won't cry

And tonight I think of what could have been.
I've thought exactly the same in many a dream.
I've got a few bits and pieces, a football plaque.
Post Cards, with lovely messages on the back.

So to the cemetery tomorrow, I will lovingly go.
Though what to say Dad, I still don't really know.
Should I leave a bunch of flowers, if so what kind?
By tomorrow Dad, the right words I'm sure to find.

Thanks ...my Dad left left me when I as a baby I think, though he returned for a couple of times for brief visits when I as a toddler, but I have no real memories. Oddly enough, Dad turned up on This is Your Life as a speaking guest for somebody later in life, that was amazing to see him, but he didn't look too well. Apparently he died not long later aged 56 after returning to Liverpool and was buried 5 minutes from where I lived, I only found all this out a few years ago. Still lots of unanswered questions, but grateful to know where my Dad is laid to rest.

Take comfort in what you knew. My own father died when I was
barely old enough to recognise him, leaving my mother a forty-something widow, with me the youngest of six children.
