Difficult Decisions

entry picture

The statement was made for comic effect;

That was the intention, one must presume,

Although the humour is a little sick

When millions are fearing winter’s doom.

‘Difficult decisions’ should be thought through,

Not simply be the sweep of some new broom,

And they should address a real dilemma;

Like whether or not to heat up your room,

Or sell your pets, economise on lunch,

Or put on lights when daytime turns to gloom.

But paying bankers bigger bonuses:

That’s easy, they’ll be cheering you on Zoom!

My thanks to Flyntland and Greg for the comments and to Nigel, Holden, John B, Julie and Pete for the likes.

I don't usually post poems on UK politics but this 'difficult decisions' mantra is so crass that I felt the urge to respond.

I liked your definition, Flyntland. I suppose that she's laughing all the way to the bank(ers).

This does smack of desperation, Greg. A lot of post-Brexit departures.

Apparently the bankers are all leaving the UK because of Brexit. So this is to try to persuade them to stay.

"Difficult decisions" what she really meant were decisions that make other people's lives more difficult.

I winced at "sell your pets"

your last line made me wince even louder. Well done for exposing the truth.

And she is smiling Grrrrrr!
