The Harshness of Winter
The beginning of the winter months are the hardest:
Not for keeping the stove stoked
Not for keeping the roads plowed
Not for facing the cold to finish projects
Not for the long nights and short days
Not for the Icy trek to town
Not for the clarity of thought that at times I'd like to be without
Not for being strapped for cash to put presents under the tree
Not for walking up the driveway in the dark because the snow is too deep
Not for the over eating and lack of exercise
Winter is hard because:
I want to smell her neck, right behind her ear
I want to hold her tight as we stand by the fire
I want to rinse the dishes while she washes
I want to hear her speak to me her words of love
I want to kiss her lips in a sweet caress
I want to get tangled in the sheets through night
I want to relive the ways of love
I want to feel the gentle dance of our hearts
I want her poetic verse to be the next lines to mine
The winter Season will pass and with it passes the harshness of these feelings
Then the Mating season of Spring rolls around, bringing with it a whole other set of challenges
With each year the yerning becomes less, and I become stronger defined in my being
With it, I grow the sight to see the golden oppertunity
