Unfortunate Christmas Tradition

Well it has been quite a week
it started with a Ho Ho Ho
As I got excited to see
the first of this winters snow

Everything looked so pretty
covered in a dusting of white
But snow is not great for travel
especially in the dark of night

Our travel plans worked out fine
for the two nights in Gdańsk, Poland
Expectations were surpassed
everything went as we had planned

We were home before we knew it
and it was still freezing cold
Back to the frozen pipes
which put all washing duties on hold

Washing machine defrosted
finally back on track at last
Fingers crossed we would escape
the tradition of Christmas past

We have quite a history
of nightmares at this time of year
Commonly they involve water
and as a rule cost us dear

Why should this year be different
I asked myself yesterday
We arrived back home to find
a sight to fill me with dismay

My heart plummeted to my feet
as I opened the lounge door
Welcomed by a waterlogged ceiling
and puddles on the floor

The outside pipes had frozen up
causing the bathroom to flood
All our efforts to defrost them
didn’t do us any good

So now we have to sit and wait
for the big freeze to thaw out
The Christmas tradition continues
was there ever any doubt?!

Glad you're getting there, Julie. Sorry to hear that but well written.

Thanks for the likes and kind comments. Update: the pipes have now defrosted and we are able to use the bathrooms again. Just need to clean up and ignore the patch on the ceiling for now.

Thanks Stephen, every year I say “that’s it we are moving” but still can’t seem to drag ourselves away. 🌈

Sounds like our last house, Julie... we moved! Lol. Hope you get it sorted, but not easy at this time of year! 😭 Keep warm (&dry)!
