Donations are essential to keep Write Out Loud going

Dad.

Since I was young I watched you and learned-I learned things of use and things that feed my soul. You gave me my name and showed me to add, You taught me to laugh and hold my tongue, how to use a hammer and swing a bat.
My favorite things remind me of you
If it wasn't for your tough love I don't know where I'd be
Who I am is because of you
I look in the mirror and I see you
Now I watch you and I fall to my knees
The pain is in your eyes
You're tired and weary
I see it when you think I can't
I've watched from the corner of my eye as you persevere through the hardest seasons of your life
I see you now while you sleep and it kills me to know that your hurting
You won't be here forever and I just want to keep you safe- but I can't.
We've switched places it seems
I've never said it outloud and I probably never will, but I'm happy that I got you.
Because of you I've learned to grow, because of you I know love.

A well judged view of your father, really heartfelt. Love the phrase “as you persevere through the hardest seasons of your life”

Jordyn, I'm a dad. A dad who is now getting a little older and infirmer. I already see my four children growing into the middle age of their lives, raising their children, busy jobs etc and I still worry about them.

If you've turned out okay your dad will be a happy man (believe me) no matter how much he hurts.

Kiss him every opportunity you get and tell him you love him. It matters
