Life lessons
Sometimes a simple hello
Is a lesson waiting to happen
Since I'm ignorant about the future
I said a few extra words
You were so beautiful and divine
Delicious like the summer sun
I had to know your name
Hello was not enough
One word changed my world
One word sealed the deal
Shortly, my smile shifted to tears
My worth diminished as well
You’re a test I was designed to fail
The kind even therapy can’t help
Life has a treacherous plan
I was cursed to walk this path
I had to grasp what wasn’t for me
To understand what is
It was your eyes that drew me in
Your smile kept me around
I fell for the wicked
If not you, then someone else
I’m doomed to learn these lessons
It's the biggest test of all
I’ll be prepared once the chapter ends
Now I carry around a bag of wisdom
And more in my back pockets
The kind people preach about
I’ve lost more than I could fathom
More than I care to tell you about
My story is no different than others
We all write reviews on hell
If only I had a time machine
I would take back my hello
And save it for someone else

A poem skillfully composed which brings to light how easily we can be taken in by initial encounters, by the superficial before our expectations are dashed to the ground. Your use of the word wisdom is very apt. Something we all need an abundance of to walk carefully through life.
Thank you for this.
