Soldier Boys
Here comes my son, the soldier boy;
He’ll always be my pride and joy.
I was so proud they would deploy
Someone so young, someone so young.
His face seemed hardly out of school;
Though he was kind and broke no rule,
They knew he was nobody’s fool,
For one so young, for one so young.
A picture in his uniform,
A buttoned coat to keep him warm,
He raced towards the coming storm,
My boy so young, my boy so young.
They said he stood up strong and brave,
So many wounded did he save;
No praise nor medals did he crave.
He was so young, he was so young.
Our country’s flag is neatly draped
Upon his coffin, squarely shaped,
And all the locals came and gaped
At one so young, at one so young.
He’s passed the crossroads of his days;
Resuming their defiant ways,
His pals continue to amaze,
But are so young, but are so young.
