I COULD HAVE SLEPT ALL NIGHT
Fellow sufferers will know the discomfort of having to go to the toilet several times a night and then being unable for minutes on end to pee. The joys of being an old man.
I could have slept all night
But I was kept all night
Busy in the loo;
It wasn’t what I planned
But now my prostate gland’s
Enlarged, it grew and grew;
And now it’s closing off my bladder
And chokes my pipework tight;
I’m bursting for a wee
If I could only pee
And get some flaming sleep tonight,
I used to wee at night
While stood at my full height
And pee into the bowl
But these days of late
I find I can’t pee straight
It seems to drip through holes;
It is almost if it were
A lively hose or colander;
So now I have to sit
As though I need a shit
And try to urinate at night.

This brought tears to my aged eyes and I found myself
joining in with memories of "My Fair Lady" very much in mind.
Although I have to rise occasionally during the night hours, the
flow generally still proceeds on demand. Certain drinks
taken too late in the evening do contribute to the pressure that
demands relief so it is wise to maintain some self-discipline in
that regard. Keep it up (so to speak!) and stay with the likes of
green tea - good for the kidneys, it seems - and a mug of black
coffee daily too for the latter. A health supplement for that
particular gland may also be a good long term investment.
In the meantime, I wish you the best in your efforts to "go with
the flow"!! In that respect, your words still retain that quality!
