Reflections on....

Us

Self-centered, wounded

Other-centered, healing

Selfish, skewed

Radical self-care, balanced

A little of this and a little of that,

in each of us

More of one, less of the other,

in each of us

"Judge not, lest ye be judged"

War

"Where you stand depends on where you sit"

The captured soldier in chains on a hospital bed

tells his nurse,

"If my hands were free I would slit your throat."

What to do with hatred?

Defend in the immediate moment,

and then pray, pray, pray,

ceaselessly.

I'm sorry to report, Stephen, that the War poem is based on a true statement told to me by a close friend (the nurse who experienced this is my friend's cousin). So heartbreaking, our human capacity to create conditions that result in us wounding/killing each other, physically and emotionally, throughout all of recorded history. Perhaps these sorrowful mysteries will make more sense on the other side of life (post death).

The second part is chilling and thought-provoking, Hélène. It stopped me in my tracks. A real achievement to write something like this.

Nah, au contraire, that's compassion in my opinion, Uilleam

Thank you Hélène.
Wise words.
I find myself increasingly "wounded" and depressed by terrible injustices in the world. I hope that's not self-centred of me?
