A Gleam in Their Eye
Quietly I press my fingertips lightly against the windowpane
Contemplating the chaotic world that lay beyond the glass
Strangers trying to convince themselves that they are sane
But with objective observation that thought shall come to pass
Society steadily moved beyond the frayed edge of normality
Excepting everything that they see and hear from lunatics on TV
Insanity and violence the talking heads tell us is just our commonality
Leaders pushing agendas that don’t fit with a rational sense of reality
Common sense has no value when you feel that you’re above the law
Lawyers will tell you it’s not about truth or justice it’s who has the cash
People will watch the facts unfold and will still deny everything they saw
Give them a buck or two and they’ll spew out any scripted trash
The people standing behind their windows staring at the world
Knew the degradation of the people was not a matter of if but when
That time we know has come; our nation’s freak flag has been unfurled
Tattered sanctums hold the few that remember life before it got so thin
The influencers of the nation stand at the precipice of greed and hate
Preaching intolerance for the truth as they nurture the bold-faced lie
All people are free to do anything they want, on this there is no debate
It’s perfectly fine and normal behavior say the insane with a gleam in their eye
